A-Team Advocacy Group Serves Up Wild Game Tacos to Celebrate Choice and Community
Fort Atkinson, WI — Advocacy can take many forms—and sometimes, it tastes delicious. The A-Team, a grassroots network of individuals with diverse abilities and their families, recently partnered with Opportunities, Inc. of Fort Atkinson, for a unique event: a wild game (wild goose, boar, elk, etc.) grilling experience featuring tacos prepared fresh for program participants.
From wild ram to wild turkey, Certified French Chef, Ellie Lawton, and Sommelier Megan Salazar offered exciting tastes not often found on everyday menus. Participants rolled up their sleeves to explore new textures and shared smiles as they sampled something adventurously delicious. You can listen to the ladies regularly with celebrities Joel Kleefisch & Danielle Fairman on the Raised in Wisco podcast.
“Ain’t nothing like a wild game feast to make lunch a grand A-Team adventure,” said Joel Kleefisch, A-Team Grassroots Government Affairs. “Folks with diverse abilities deserve every choice when it comes to how they live and work. After all, the world’s just plain a better place when hearts, minds, souls and bellies are full!”
The event was not just about healthy choices, and active living, but also fun! Trying something different for many, it was the first time tasting wild game—and the response was resounding.
“Food has a wonderful way of bringing joy and sparking curiosity,” said Barb LeDuc, President/CEO of Opportunities, Inc. “Watching participants step out of their comfort zones, laugh together, and discover new favorites was what made the day so special.”
At Opportunities, Inc., every activity is designed to empower individuals with diverse abilities to live fully, make choices, and enjoy new life experiences. The wild game grilling adventure proved that food can be empowering.
Events that bring together our communities and highlight participant skills and choices are critical to our service delivery.
