Sensory Friendly Day at the Jefferson County Fair: Added Benefits Now Offered!

Jefferson, WI – Sensory Friendly Day is returning to the Jefferson County Fair on July 8, offering a more relaxed and inclusive fair experience for all. This year also introduces extra benefits when pre-registering to support families, groups, and individuals who want to participate.

Held on the first day of the fair, beginning at 8 a.m., guests can enjoy a naturally quieter atmosphere in the Kidz Zone, try the Creation Station in the Activity Center, and see animals both big and small in the barns. Guests also have the option to attend higher energy entertainment such as animal shows, tractor pulls, and quiet carnival rides (from 4-5pm) at their own comfort level.

To further enhance the experience, the Fair is now offering extra benefits by simply pre-registering. Individuals in need of sensory accommodations have the option to register on the fair website to receive one complimentary carnival ride pass, one complimentary fair food item, and 50% off pre-purchased admission for participants and their immediate family. These added benefits wouldn’t be possible if not for the support from Jefferson FFA Alumni and Mr. Ed’s Magical Midway.

Individuals, groups, and families are all encouraged to pre-register online at JCoFair.com/SensoryDay. Due to limited supplies, the Jefferson County Fair kindly asks that only individuals with ASD or related disabilities, including learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, or sensory needs are registered.

With or without pre-registering, guests that attend Sensory Friendly Day will find extra tools that they can utilize. Attendees can find information for local groups and services that have frequently shown their support for individuals with ASD or related abilities. They’ll also find Sensory Tool Kits—available for checkout while supplies last—which include headphones and fidgets. Finally, to get prepared, families are invited to read the social story “I’m Going to the Fair” and see the Fair Checklist which are available on the Fair website now. These resources, available to everyone, are made possible by the support of Autism United.

“I’m happy that we are able to bring back Sensory Friendly Day for it’s second year!” said Sammy Garvey, Fair Coordinator. “We understand that coming to the fair can be overwhelming for some, and our hope is that this program helps families and community members find a way to enjoy the day with us.”
