St. Coletta of Wisconsin Celebrates Disability Advocacy Day and Promotes a Call for Change
Jefferson, WI and Greater Milwaukee Area – On March 12, 2025, St. Coletta of Wisconsin celebrated Disability Advocacy Day by inviting the individuals we support to learn more about how to speak up for themselves and raise their voice on important legislative policies that affect their daily lives. The day surrounded a presentation from the Survival Coalition of Wisconsin and the chance to write their own stories to share directly with Wisconsin legislators.
Disability Advocacy Day is one of many activities St. Coletta provides as part of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, which is nationally recognized every March. At St. Coletta, developmental disabilities can range in many different diagnoses, some examples are autism disorder, which is 24% of the supported individuals, down syndrome, 13%, and other intellectual disabilities. 1 Despite these obstacles, persons with developmental disabilities make important contributions to their communities when given proper support in every aspect of their lives.
Robin Baker, CEO and President of St. Coletta of Wisconsin invites others to learn more about disability awareness. "As we celebrate Disability Awareness Month, we reaffirm our commitment to creating a more inclusive and empowering world for individuals with special needs. At St. Coletta of Wisconsin, we believe in fostering independence, dignity, and opportunity through the essential services we provide like residential housing, day programming and transportation. Every person, regardless of ability, deserves the opportunity to thrive, and we are proud to be a part of their journey toward a more fulfilling life."
